Buenos Aires Fashion Week (BAFWEEK) is the leading fashion event in Argentina and one of the major fashion weeks in Latin America, held twice yearly in Buenos Aires. The autumn edition, typically running in mid-July, presents winter collections from Argentine and regional designers. The spring edition, usually in late October, covers summer lines. The main venue is La Rural, a large exhibition complex in Palermo, though satellite events extend into neighbouring districts.
What to expect
The main runway programme features both established Argentine labels and emerging designers presenting to buyers, press, and industry professionals. Names including Vero Ivaldi, Kostüme, and Martiniano have built reputations through the BAFWEEK platform. Alongside the runway shows, the week includes trade showrooms, presentations in studio-format spaces, and panel discussions on fashion industry topics.
Not all events are closed to the public. Market days, pop-up retail activations, and some presentations in Palermo’s showrooms operate on a ticketed or free-entry basis for general visitors. Check BAFWEEK’s official channels and Instagram in the weeks leading up to the event for schedules of public-accessible programming.
Atmosphere and location
Palermo is the natural base during fashion week. The neighbourhood’s concentration of independent clothing boutiques, concept stores, and design studios makes it worth exploring on foot even outside the official programme. The Palermo Soho and Palermo Hollywood areas around Avenida Santa Fe and Armenia Street have clusters of Argentine fashion labels with their own showroom events during the week.
San Telmo also picks up satellite activity, particularly from younger designers who use the neighbourhood’s independent gallery spaces for presentations.
Practical information
Getting to La Rural from central Buenos Aires is straightforward: take Line D of the subte (metro) to Scalabrini Ortiz station, or Line H to Las Heras. Taxis and remises (private hire) are widely available. Palermo has extensive accommodation options at various price points, and staying in the neighbourhood saves travel time during the week.
Dress code expectations at industry events lean professional-to-fashion-forward. For any public market days, there is no formal dress requirement.
Exact dates for the autumn edition shift by one to two weeks depending on the year. Check official BAFWEEK channels or Buenos Aires city tourism listings for confirmed programming before booking travel specifically around the event.
